I have set my self a challenge to draw these exercises everyday for the next 30 days. Today I am on a day 3 and I thought I would share my drawings and some tips on these exercises.
Here is a short timelapse from todays sesion.
So as per the exercises, my goal is to to draw the human body from all angles out of my imagination – without using reference. Don’t get me wrong – THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH USING REFERENCE, but it feels limitading a lot of the times, and it is time consuming to find a good reference photo.
So let’s jump into practice !
Exercise 1
simplify the head, torso and hips into cubes and draw diferent poses using reference. Arms and legs can remain a simple line

Exercise 2
Same as exercise 1 but make legs and arms into cylinder and spheres.

Exercise 3
Look on a reference image for 1 minute, then cover it and try to draw it from memory.

Exercise 4
Look at your reference image but draw the pose from a diferent angle (eg. You have a front view of someone sitting – draw it from the profile)

These examples I by no means perfect I have still a lot to learn but it might be useful to see some imperfect practise sketches insted of nearly perfect demonstrations from art teachers or professional artist.
One last thing – it really doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or not as long as you can ROTATE CUBE = (draw cube from every angle from imagination). you can do this. Exercise 3 and 4 might be difficult at first so stick with the first 2 exercises and don’t stress it!
Actually the last thing – DONT ERASE – I don’t want to sounds like that art teacher hating on eraser, however these sketches are supposed to be quick – you make a mistake you try again. Eraser will slow you down significntly and you can’t see your mistakes becouse you erase them all. I would recommend going all of this in ink or a pen, something you can’t erase. But if pencil is the most comfortable for you, go for it by all means.
Now let’s grab our sketchbooks and DRAW!
