Title

Hello everyone! This idea was totally random and I actually got it on the way to art shop – pretty convenient right? I was able to pick up all the materials needed but there weren’t much.

ONY 2 BLACK POSCA MARKERS – That is everything you will need. Also a heat erasable pen (like pilot pens) are very helpful.

Firstly I started with the erasable pen, just drawing everything out. It is important to wear the jacket as It will look different on the body than on a hanger. Once I was happy with the lines I then grabbed the Posca marker and traced over the lines.

I do recommend first trying out your design on paper so you get to practice a bit and know exactly what to do. Here are the examples of barbed wire stylisation I wanted to do on my jacket.

I have one advice here: JUST GO FOR IT! This blog is mostly focusing on art block and fear and this is a prime example. You have one jacket and only one change as you can’t really get rid of the Posca marker. I am really not the person who slowly and patiently works on they art – NO NO NO I NEED TO WORK FAST – so even here not all lines will be perfect the first time but so you might need to go over them. For my effect of barbed wire it was fine to leave some of the line imperfect. Also the Posca marker will bleed through the fabric – more in natural fibre – so make sure you have something underneath.

The magic about Posca markers is they they don’t make a crust like acrylics do. So once it is dry you can set it with an iron or a blowdryer set on a high heat as I did it. This will also erase any pen marking still visible.

The finished piece is quite smooth – actually looks like it was professionally printed so I would recommend this technique to anyone who wants to give a bit of spark to their clothes!

  • As per my test Posca markes are waterproof but they can’t resist soap. So be careful with washing your customised clothes!

HAPPY CRAFTING
